The Abbey and brewery were founded on the former farm estate of King Willem II of Holland. He used it as his country house and place to relax from the strain of being the King. He reigned in the 19th century and was known for his vision in building up industry and the complicated canal system still in use today. Later on, the local people near Tilburg called this place Koningshoeven, what means “The King’s Farm”. The brewing tradition started at the end of the 19th century on that very spot.

Just recently the whole brewery has been modernized, while still using the traditional brewing methods. The quality is therefore insured by using the most modern techniques and machinery.
